Spring is still bursting forth with all its loveliness. The neighbourhood jacarandas will be in bloom in a couple of weeks. The camelias and azaelias have finished their shows.
In my little pot garden I’ve planted radishes, lettuce and Italian basil and tomatoes. A pot of giant apricot-coloured gerberas and another of deep red ranunculus blooms are recent birthday additions.
In the evenings our family recently finished watching The Benedict Society, the series based on the mystery/adventure novels by Trenton Lee Stewart. A couple of the kids had read the books and said the show was quite different in parts. I thought it was pretty fun, and now one of the kids is trying to teach himself how to play the theme music, which is cool.
I also finished reading The Two Towers from The Lord of the Rings out loud to the boys. We agreed that while we want to know what happens to Frodo, now he’s been taken by orcs on the edge of Mordor, we’ll take a break from Tolkien for a little while.
It left up to an hour’s gap in the evenings when I didn’t want to do anything mentally taxing but it was too early to go to bed. So I’ve started a paint by numbers project. It’s my first time so we’ll see how it goes. If you have any tips on how to make a paint by colours number look good enough to hang on a wall let me know!
Also quite nice was discovering the Godfather (two parts whisky, one part amaretto, and orange peel over lots of ice), and polishing off the last of a birthday gift tin of fudge (pictured above).
What about you? What have you been enjoying lately?
