I have an idea that readers of this blog might find useful some ideas (Sydney-based) for Sunday family days out which include Mass. Especially as it can be fun to experience different parishes and liturgies sometimes.
Last Sunday was my brother-in-law’s birthday and the plan was to meet his family for yum cha at a restaurant at the Sydney Fish Markets. That got us thinking of a different Mass option.
St Patrick’s at Church Hill comes first in convenience in the city on Sundays, with a Mass starting every hour. There isn’t heaps of parking, but we got a spot in the street alongside the church pretty quickly.
There was a sausage sizzle and book sale happening in the courtyard. Someone we know called to me and we chatted with him until it was time to go in.
Mass is guaranteed to stay within an hour at St Pat’s and from there it’s a five minute drive out to the markets in the inner west. It makes for quite a hassle-free Sunday outing.
We continued from there to the National Maritime Museum and then to The Star casino for Gelato Messina icecreams and a little play in a park nearby. It was a great day but I needed a nap when we got home!
