Author interview: Michael D O’Brien and The Lighthouse

Though written before the coronavirus pandemic began, the latest novel by Michael D O’Brien explores themes of isolation, loneliness and the need for connection with others and God.

It’s called The Lighthouse and was published by Ignatius Press this month.

More than a dozen books, many of them best-sellers including Fr Elijah: An ApocalypseElijah in Jerusalem, The Father’s Tale, Sophia House, and The Fool of New York City have earned him a reputation as one of the greatest spiritual storytellers of modern times.

I spoke to to him this week about some themes in the book, his prodigious creative output, and the reason why his icon-painting days (he’s also a great painter and iconographer) may be over.
