Wow it’s been quiet here on the blog. I haven’t checked in for a while and obviously not many others have either.
I’ve been busy, and seriously working on improving my use of time; making the most of those odd and unplanned bits of free time with the kids (impromptu walks, games of musical statues etc.), and generally keeping on top of the family calendar and random things that need dealing with and the miscellaneous piles of paper that make their way into the house every single week.
And the past few weeks working on the Frankly bookazine, which I think is shaping up to be even better than last year’s successful launch issue.
I hesitate to write here if I don’t have something in particular to write about, or big things to write about that I can’t do justice in a few free moments. And the longer I leave it the more resistance there is to writing a post about nothing. But I realised tonight, that in the end do you know where that leads? Nothing. Existential emptiness. A functionally nihilistic blog. And as soon as I thought of it like that I couldn’t leave it updated!
At least my miniscule spot of a spot of an atom on the internet can host a little warm and chatty and gentle update on nothing rather than really nothing just because I’m busy. Dear God, let’s opt, always, for too much fullness, too much life, too much stuff going on, so long as it’s purposeful stuff!
I do have things (big things!) to write about and radio spots to record and columns I want to write, and book week parade costumes to arrange – and various appointments to keep. But there’s always time to drop everything for a cuddle or a game of musical statues – or a jog around the block with my 12-year-old which nearly killed me this week.
One thing I’ve successfully outsourced this week is cooking dinners – my husband and kids have been busy in the kitchen. Tonight’s dinner was garlicky pasta and prawns (a current favourite) and tomorrow we have homemade biscuits (definitely biscuits these, not cookies!) for morning tea. All made while I was napping no less!
* With a salute to the ultimate something ‘about nothing’. Not an original idea, I’m sure.
